About Us
The Episcopal Tradition
In the Episcopal tradition, faith is shaped by three key pillars.
Scripture
We Episcopalians believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God and a source of truth. We study the Bible to understand God's character, teachings, and actions in the world. The Bible provides the foundation for our beliefs and worship practices.
Tradition
Tradition refers to the accumulated wisdom and experiences of the Christian church throughout history. This includes the development of doctrine, liturgical practices, and the teachings of the church fathers. Tradition helps Episcopalians understand and apply Scripture in a contemporary context.
Reason
Episcopalians recognize that God has given them the gift of reason, allowing them to think critically and seek understanding. Reason is used to interpret Scripture and Tradition, to evaluate different theological positions, and to make moral judgments. It is not seen as a separate source of authority but rather as a tool to deepen their faith and understanding.
What to Expect at Holy Innocents
Sunday is traditionally when Episcopalians gather for worship. The principal weekly worship service is the Holy Eucharist, also known as: the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion, or Mass. Worship is accompanied by the singing of hymns with organ accompaniment.

Worship Styles
Episcopalians worship in many different styles, ranging from very formal, ancient, and multi-sensory rites with lots of singing, music, fancy clothes (called vestments) worn by those leading the worship, and incense, to informal services with contemporary music. You’ll find all those elements at Holy Innocents.
All worship in the Episcopal Church is based in our Book of Common Prayer (BCP), which gives worship a familiar feel, no matter which church you visit.
There is no dress code at Holy Innocents so dress as you prefer.
